7-day mourning for Manmohan Singh; Ex-PM's last rites on Saturday
A decomposed body was discovered in the Pratappur area of Raghunathganj, Murshidabad, after a strong, unpleasant odor emanated from a rented house over the course of three days. The deceased has been identified as 50-year-old Bapi Das, a truck driver. He had been living alone in a room at the residence of Pratima Halder for the past three years. Bapi, originally from Sutir Ahiran, had rented the room after the death of his wife.
Concerns among locals grew when Bapi did not leave his room for several days, despite being a regular presence in the area. Neighbors made multiple attempts to contact him on Wednesday evening but received no response. The following day, when the foul smell became overpowering, neighbors and Bapi’s family were alerted, and the authorities were informed.
By Thursday afternoon, the stench became unbearable, prompting the family to notify the police. The door to Bapi’s second-floor room was forced open, and inside, the decomposed body was found. Both the house owner, Pratima Halder, and local residents were present during the discovery. The police immediately took control of the scene, with investigators working to recover the body.
The body was later removed and sent for post-mortem examination. Although there were no immediate signs of external injuries or foul play, authorities have launched a thorough investigation into the cause of death. Local police are collecting details from Bapi’s family, neighbors, and examining his background. The investigation continues to determine the circumstances surrounding his death.
